Track: Telescreen – Moving On

Melburnian band Telescreen have just released a very vibrant and exciting new single ‘Moving On’, which is a sharp and melodic piece of intelligent pop dealing with real and tangible issues.

A melodic, rhythmic spine is backed up with fuzzy walls of guitars and vocal layers that express anger and frustration about ineffective politicians.

With a sense of determined resolve, front man Nic Schwarz says of the themes of the song:

We, as a group, felt as though there was this real disconnect between the actions of Australia’s leaders and the true needs of those affected by the fires. ‘Moving On’ addresses our politicians’ disregard for public opinion, along with their seemingly growing inaction and detachment from issues in order to protect their self-interests.

This is wrapped up in a perfectly formed piece of pop with just a hint of sixties fizz and bop – a Phil Spector-esque wall of soul and swing with a Dusty Springfield bounce.

The band won a competition to have a video produced and directed by students from the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) (whose graduates include Cate Blanchett, Mel Gibson, Baz Luhrmann, Colin Friels and Sam Worthington) and the result is a charming portrayal of characters expressing themselves – revealing their true self through their art and makeup.
