Track: The Lovely Eggs – Long Stem Carnations

The zany, genre-fusing organism that is The Lovely Eggs have released Long Stem Carnations on limited-edition orange clear vinyl, alongside a vinyl exclusive B-side: Voyage.

With both I am Moron and the single’s extra-terrestrial themed artwork (by frequent collaborator Casey Raymond), plus Long Stem Carnation’s keyboard part; which surges the listener further into the euphoric Eggland, it is no surprise that the band’s new material was sparked by the Mars One Programme. Holly and David saw parallels between this mission and their own isolation as a band. ‘Long Stem Carnations’ is a funeral march for society’s outcasts and freaks. It’s an existential voyage in cosmic form, with guitarist/vocalist Holly asking, “Is there an internal self-destruct button that cannot be destroyed?”, “We are all the pilots of our own ship. You’ve just got to remember it’s important to try and hang on and see the mission through.”

Like 2018’s incredible This Is Eggland, I am Moron was masterminded by highly sought-after producer Dave Fridmann (who has produced the likes of Tame Impala, Mogwai and more). I am Moron accumulated even more rewards for the husband and wife duo, including its immediate ascension to the Number One spot in both the UK independent charts and UK vinyl charts, as well as being BBC Radio 6’s Album of the Day.

Eager as ever to satiate fans’ appetites for their live performances, The Lovely Eggs remain resilient for rescheduled UK shows in February 2021. Explaining their decision to reschedule, they say: “We imagine that even by autumn even if gigs CAN happen, they’ll be very different to the usual Lovely Eggs experience and we don’t want that! We want the normal Egg-shaped chaos that you’ve come to expect from a Lovely Eggs gig.”, and also add, “We live to tour and tour to live. This is our life and our livelihood. Once this shitstorm is over. We want a party like no other!! Looking forward to seeing you all next year!”. See information on their 2021 shows below.

The single is available July 10th and, despite the first pressings already selling out, fans can pre-order/buy it from their local record shop.
