Track: The Waterboys – Low Down In The Broom

The Waterboys follow the recent release of their current upbeat pop single ‘The Soul Singer’ with the gorgeous arrangement of ‘Low Down In The Broom’. It is accompanied by a mysterious and atmospheric video that reflects its origins as a traditional Scottish folk song.

Both songs, along with the dramatic epic ‘My Wanderings In The Weary Land’, give a glimpse into what to expect from their new studio album Good Luck, Seeker the 14th studio album from The Waterboys due August 21st via Cooking Vinyl. The three songs are all different in nature and reflect the magnitude of song writing talent.

“It connects with the early The Waterboys sound, that emotionally-driven power” scott explains, “and though it’s an ancient folk song, there’s no folk in the delivery. It’s feral acoustic rock and roll. ”

The Waterboys aren’t strangers to using traditional songs or poems. They even did an album using the words of W.B Yeats – ‘An Appointment with Mr Yeats’.  This time they take the traditional song ‘Low Down In The Broom’ and turn it into a brooding acoustic ballad with no percussion and a melodic line picked out on chiming guitar as Scott’s breathes out the story of lovers secret meeting.
