Track: Thrillhouse maintain the quality with their latest in a series of monthly releases ‘Just At The Right Time’

Far from outstaying their welcome and creating mundane produce, Thrillhouse‘s ambitious plan to release a new single every month is proving a fertile soil to plow. Their new single for the month of April is another very exciting piece of music, and let’s face it, in over a year of regular releases, this band has never disappointed or let their standards slip. Over this time, my common question has been why this band hasn’t been signed up by a label and why haven’t they combined the delights they have created into an album.

However, it is not for me to pursue such questions but rather to report on the wares (and to labour with poorly conceived metaphors), and ‘Just At The Right Time’ is, par for the course, brilliant.

This is a band with a unique style – I couldn’t easily mistake them for another contemporary indie outfit – and ‘Just At The Right Time’ is another iteration of their winning formula: smart erudite lyrics, a funky, chopping rhythm and a wry, weary vocal style that is studied and enigmatic. The instrumentation is distinctive – electronic and keys based and harmonies provide a shimmering lustre. Comparisons always return to Talking Heads, but more so for the eclectic style and innovation. Think too of the musical eccentricities of bands like Pulp – there is an anxious and vulnerable timbre. But above all, there is no mistaking the musical talents of the group:

Out on the 23 April, you can pre-save the track for streaming/downloads here. And in a sign of the band emerging from their mysterious cocoon, note there is actually a new band photograph.
