Track: Ty Segall & Cory Hanson – She’s a Beam single resurfaces

Half a decade ago, the Aussie garage rock dynamo teamed with Cory Hanson of Wand to create this single and it’s equally enthralling B-side “Milk Bird Flyer”. Swiftly becoming a feverish Reddit discussion, “She’s a Beam” was first debuted as a similar but tamer acoustic version, before recently being rediscovered. All profits of the initial week’s sales on Bandcamp will support Black Lives Matter LA

“She’s a Beam” has a joyfully sung vocal with similarly sweet finger-picked guitars as it’s prelude, tantalizing the track’s centerpiece of a meaty instrumental cascade of battering drums and driving power chords. This near-relentless jam is announced by a rising, stirring synth line. Segall is not just a wildly vivacious drummer but also incredibly adept in his style and gear (a vintage Ludwig kit his pride and joy). With 2019’s First Taste, Segall employed double drumming with bandmate Charles Moothart and added roto toms to his kit, but here Segall drums a supremely ravaging performance solely. “Milk Bird Flyer” is a much fuzzier offering, where Hanson’s groove-laden guitar weaves in and out of Segall’s brutal percussion bewilderingly, seeming to convey an illusion with their utter synchronicity. Both tracks are brilliantly jubilant and celebratory, due in part to Segall’s evergreen, crisp vocals.
