The history of enigmatic Western Australian band Pond is inextricably linked with fellow mega star exports Tame Impala, with common members revolving in and out of each others bands over time. As a collective, the band has an impressive resume – eight studio albums with the release of their most critically acclaimed album to date, ‘Tasmania’ in 2019, charted highly in Australia.
The band is back, and back with a massive statement of intent as well as tour news.
Their new single ‘Pink Lunettes’ is a cathartic and explosive return – wild and furious throbbing bass lines and stabbing electronica rocketing forth with yelping and exhortations laced with a sneering and arch style. It really is an unhinged and chaotic ride that is immeasurably medicinal: think of the attitude and excess of The Birthday Party delivered directly to the system through an electronic psychedelic intravenous drip.

It’s all very Sigue Sigue Sputnik fused onto The Birthday Party with a Cabaret Voltaire sense of sound. Psych? A little bit psycho. And so very good for it.
