Track: Wyndow, aka Lavinia Blackwall and Laura J Martin, release ‘Take My Picture’

Forged out of a need to be creative in these lockdown times, Wyndow is the new project from ex-Trambling Bells’ Lavinia Blackwall and singer-songwriter Laura J Martin. They’ve released a new singl ‘Take My Picture’, as well as revealing they are working on an album together.

After meeting first at Moseley Folk Festival, the pair bonded over the music of Robert Wyatt, and the pair have worked on things and contributed to each others music, most recently when Laura played flute parts on Lavinia’s brilliant debut solo album Muggington Lane End

As the world took a nose-dive, I wanted to lose myself in a new project” explained Laura. “I was listening to Japanese environmental music and wanted to present those atmospheres alongside two voices. I mentioned it to Lavinia, and we formed a plan to start working on a cover.”

We collaborated on a cover of Robert Wyatt’s song ‘Free Will and Testament. After recording, it felt like we’d found a new combination and we wanted to develop it further, so we continued sending ideas back and forth” adds Lavinia.

Take my picture is this sensual slice of psych pop, which lets synth lines wash underneath this piano figure, which along with the strings laps at the duos vocals. As it sighs and swoons its way through, Lavinia and Laura playfully weave in and out of eachother as little moments of chamber pop anchor things down.

It’s quite, quite lovely. Check it out, here
