See: Prides reveal new video for Out Of The Blue (plus tour dates)

You saw them perform at the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony but Glasgow-based Prides have only just begun their journey. The talented trio specialise in synth-pop that’ll makes dancers out of all of us – I challenge you to sit still when hearing one of their tracks. It’s impossible.

‘Out Of The Blue’ is the latest song Prides have gifted to us, complete with a dynamic (and somewhat ridiculous) music video. The song is set to be released on 8th December on Island Records.

The passion is evident in lead singer Stewart’s voice, and the defiant words create an anthem worthy of stadiums. The wicked drum beat from Lewis and musical brilliance from Callum complete the sound and it makes you wonder why these boys have slipped under the radar at all.

Sincere, emotional lyrics balance the otherwise cheerful tone that Prides seem so good at. The line “well here it is my last defence” brings you back down to earth and forces you to look at love in a different light. Stewart explains that ‘Out Of The Blue’ is inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Big Love’, telling us it “wasn’t about looking for love, it was about looking out for love, guarding against it.”

Perhaps due to the title of the song, everything in this video is blue; blue clothes adorn the model, the little girl, the wrestler and the fire breather. The drum kit and the backdrops are blue. If that wasn’t enough, the room is filled with clouds of blue smoke and the instruments are coated in a bright blue powder. Even the band themselves get a makeover as bags of blue dust explode over their heads.

So what’s the deal? Singer Stewart Brock claims they “really wanted to portray the excitement of a live show, as well as live up to the grandeur of the song. It was great fun to film, and it’s full of all our most ridiculous ideas”. Well, they’ve succeeded in my eyes. If all their music videos – and gigs – are going to be like this I want to be invited to the next one.

‘Out Of The Blue’ will be released on 8th December 2014.
