Norwegian singer-songwriter Girl in Red (Marie Ulven Ringheim,) is appearing at the Hordern Pavilion tonight. It’s a cold, clear winter evening outside, but inside, the venue buzzes with warmth and anticipation. A diverse crowd, waving LGBTQ+ flags and signs, eagerly awaits her arrival, belting out songs from the venue playlist with fervour, their voices blending into a powerful chorus. A particularly hearty rendition of Chappell Roan’s ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ fills the air, followed by an ear-splitting shout-along to Billie Eilish’s ‘Chihiro.’

Suddenly, she’s there, stepping into the spotlight, dressed in a sharp suit and bathed in red light. The crowd erupts in a crescendo of screams, their energy matching the vibrant presence of Girl in Red. She sets a frenetic pace, darting from one side of the stage to the other, a dynamo of energy that has the crowd yelling for more. In the midst of the chaos, I stumble over something in the photography pit. Glancing down, I see my foot tangled in a pink bra—someone’s enthusiastic attempt to toss it on stage that fell short. It’s a fitting emblem for the night: wild, unrestrained, and bursting with enthusiasm.

Girl in Red’s tour will move on to Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Auckland next – ticket info HERE.
