News: Glasgow Post-Punk Risers San Jose Shine On ‘I’ve Got You’

Glasgow’s theatrical post-punk provocateurs San Jose return with their electrifying new single, ‘I’ve Got You’ out today. Fusing the chaotic rawness of their incendiary live shows with an intricately layered studio sound, this latest offering is a feverish plunge into hedonistic self-confrontation—equal parts abrasive, euphoric, and deeply human.

Produced by Christopher McCrory (Walt Disco, Catholic Action), ‘I’ve Got You’ burns with post-punk intensity, its wiry guitars, feedback shrieks and pulsing drums colliding with dreamy choral touches and warped saxophone interludes. The result is a swirling, maximalist soundscape that captures the ecstatic disorientation of late-night self-reflection. Think early Black Country, New Road jamming with Cabbage, wrapped in a layer of performance art and existential dread.

Speaking about the single, the band explain: “I’ve Got You is an unconventional love song at its heart. Instead of following a relationship person to person, we wanted to explore the slimiest depths of self-love, allowing it to realise and personify. Is there a moment of pleasure that goes too far, if so when and why?

We ultimately find ourselves in a brothel uniquely suited to ourselves, in each room lies empty, within exists only a mirror from which me must derive love. Confronting your own hedonistic desires is naturally uncomfortable and we wanted that to be represented in how the song sounds. Chris McCrory helped with this massively, keenly helping us walk the line between filth and flirtation alongside an ever expanding soundscape of spacial noises.”

The band’s conceptual ambitions are reflected not just in their lyrics, but in the sonic architecture of the track itself, highlight both the bands poetic writing style and sprawling, intense musicality.

Already making a name for themselves as one of Scotland’s most must-see live acts, San Jose have sold out King Tuts, turned heads with surrealist live antics (yes, including the crucifixion of a man in a bear costume), and headlined UK tours with their signature blend of punk grit and performance art chaos. Their “mini-orchestral” six-piece lineup brings both scale and intimacy, with every show feeling like a dangerous piece of theatre.

The new single captures the bands live aura whilst instantaneously delivering a depth through the musical depth captured on ‘I’ve Got You’. Listen below:
