Indie-rock trio Call Me Cannon share the infectious and atmospheric new single ‘Circles’.

From the very first note of ‘Circles,’ listeners are greeted with an energetic smoothness that effortlessly combines indie-rock tendencies with elements of dreamy shoe-gaze and a dark, grunge undertone. The song’s arrangement creates a dreamy and calm soundscape, skilfully blending warming bass, punching drums, muted and airy guitar lines, and bright keyboards under the floating lead vocal.

The story behind ‘Circles’ adds an intriguing layer to Call Me Cannon’s artistry. Michael Fitz, one of the trio’s members, recalls a pivotal moment when he wrote the song while working on an offshore oil rig at the young age of 22. Amidst the isolation and hostility of the environment, Michael found solace on the heliport, strumming his guitar under the starlit sky and serenading the ocean waves. It was from this raw and introspective space that ‘Circles’ was born.

Call Me Cannon is a musical collaboration between Michael Fitz, Jonathan Clark, and Tony Brock. The trio’s journey began in 2005 when Michael and Tony crossed paths while working on Michael’s album, ‘Never Look Back.’ Instantly becoming fast friends, they went on to record two more albums together, namely ‘Poetic Justice’ and ‘Everything Must Change.’ In 2018, Michael encountered Jonathan during their collaboration on Michael’s album, ‘Colors in the Wind.’ Recognizing the incredible musicianship of both Tony and Jonathan, Michael had an epiphany and decided to bring them together in the studio, eager to witness the magic that would unfold.

In 2022, the trio assembled at Travis Dickerson’s studio in Chatsworth, CA, with the sole purpose of recording a single song. Little did they know that this humble beginning would lead to something extraordinary. Fuelled by the shared ethos of “doing what we want as long as it rocks,” Michael introduced some of his favorite songs that he had written but never recorded. Thus, Call Me Cannon was born. Their debut album, ‘Better Late Than Never,’ stands as a genre-bending masterpiece, drawing influences from classic rock, pop-punk, and retro rock. The band’s sound is simultaneously unique and familiar, leaving listeners craving more.

For those unfamiliar with Tony Brock, his musical credits stretch as far as the eye can see. He is widely recognized for founding The Babys, as well as his collaborations with legendary artists such as Rod Stewart, Jimmy Barnes, and Bernie Taupin. Jonathan Clark, on the other hand, has lent his talents to the likes of Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, Don Henley, Christopher Cross, and Peter Cetera, and is currently recording and touring with Dwight Yoakam. As for Michael, he has an impressive track record of writing and recording 17 independent albums, with two of his songs receiving nominations for Song of the Year at the Hollywood Independent Music Awards (HIMA) in 2006 and 2017. His work with Neil Young further solidifies his reputation as a gifted artist.

Speaking about the new single, the band share: “‘Circles’ is a song about the relationship between the physical world and the metaphysical world and how they are connected.”
