We are inordinately honoured to premiere the new single and video of the track ‘Forever’ from the extraordinary Reb Fountain, which heralds a new album ‘How Love Bends’ from the New Zealand chanteuse.

‘Forever’ is a sinuous, sensuous track with a floating dreamy riff and Fountain’s louche cool delivery that’s enchanting and hypnotic. The drums and bass lay down an insistent pattering rhythm that helps build a certain momentum – a forward motion that is ambulant and snaky.

Fountain says of the track:

‘Forever’ was born of a dream; I woke up in the night with a melody, scraps of lyrics, the chorus and a basic outline. That day I went to Dave’s and we built the song from this vision. I wanted the atmosphere of the song to harness the sage wisdom of the dream, to feel like a surreal exploration into the known, unseen and mystical. It was also a chance to express the plight of the subconscious, wrestling with and coming to terms with one’s self; with myself. I look forward to the next incarnation – putting this dreamwork into practice live on stage! We do this ‘Forever.’

The lyrics burn with an intensity, encapsulating the discombobulating power of love and devotion:

It’s not the sin it’s lightning that makes you scared of the dark
It’s not our lack it’s our love that tears your fabric apart
All the romantics came out, it’s brave to be who you are
I saw the serpent turning heads, we don’t be caught off guard

The video, directed by Lola Fountain-Best, captures Fountain in a mesmerising performance – part disdainful, part dismissive, filled with swagger and attitude, utterly transfixing:

‘Forever’ is out tomorrow (Tuesday, 29 October’) and will be available here. It is the second single off the album ‘How Love Bends’, which is slated for release on Friday, 7 March 2025 via The Orchard. Reb Fountain and her full band are embarking on a nationwide New Zealand tour throughout April and May 2025 to celebrate ‘How Love Bends’.

In ‘How Love Bends’, Fountain muses on the transformative power of love. She says:

Love is a first kiss, a late night call, an ache of longing that can break your heart or a long drive with the top down to anywhere but here. Love can equally be contained, repressed and longed for as much as it can save, nurture and embolden. Love is a measure of our humanity or how lost we have become.

Love is essentially another brilliant release from Fountain to look forward to. And based on the evidence thus far, it will be transformative.
