Composer/pianist Akira Kosemura is set to release his soundtrack for the movie ‘Rudy’ on the 15th of September via Schole Records the Tokyo based label founded by Akira Kosemura.
The album is the soundtrack of the new film Rudy directed by Shona Auerbach (also BAFTA-nominated director of Dear Frankie). With “Rudy”‘s soundtrack, Akira Kosemura shows the extent of his talent as a composer, the recording includes 31 tracks from short beautiful minimal solo piano pieces to tracks with ambient textures and more orchestrated pieces. As always, the piano plays a central role and the listener is transported by the emotion of the compositions of the internationally acclaimed pianist Akira Kosemura. The love and sorrow of a family, a family that struggles but progresses little by little, is an excellent work that echoes Kosemura’s piano music, which continues to gently support the family while containing a touch of sadness.
The movie is set in the heart of rural England, where the lead character Rudy, finds her relationship with her father being tested. Stuck as a proxy parent to her younger siblings and dealing with a recent loss, she feels increasingly pushed out when her home gets opened up to a paying guest. Through a newfound friendship with a boy from Coventry, she discovers fun, freedom and autonomy, but is it at the sacrifice of unspoken family wounds? A poignant insight into love, loss and moving on.
Shona Auerbach is a British film director and cinematographer. Her outstanding debut film Dear Frankie was shown at numerous film festivals (including Cannes Films Festival) and the director was nominated at BAFTA. Rudy is her first film in almost 20 years.
Kosemura has shared the video for the track Mum taken from the album. A stunningly heart wrenching piano led piece that shines with its short but evocative theme. The notes of which rise cautiously slightly muffled as if awakening from a deep slumber.
