I can’t believe it’s been over a year since Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ ‘Fronzoli’ ruled over the speakers of this house. The last album from Australia’s favourite psychedelic garage rock group felt like it barely left rotation, like a constant background noise pushing us through the grind of summer 2023 and definitely impressing the neighbours.

The big news? They’re back, and they haven’t returned empty-handed. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have just dropped ‘Weird World Awoke’, a single that’s just pure, unfiltered ecstasy – And it’s all in the name of their upcoming seventh album ‘Carpe Diem, Moonman’, coming this May.

A breakneck rock’n’roll sprint, ‘Weird World Awoke’ hurtles forward with razor-sharp riffs ricocheting off the walls and lyrics firing at full speed. More importantly, it feels unmistakably new. Jack McEwan’s opening musings pull you in so fast, hooking you before you even realise what’s hit you.

Following up 2023’s ‘Fronzoli’, ‘Carpe Diem, Moonman’ is set to be another madcap evolution for the band. With its anything-goes approach and head-spinning unpredictability, it’s designed for repeat listens, each time offering something new to latch onto. Frontman Jack McEwan calls the album a “mongrel” of sounds, a whirlwind of ideas that bounces between the bizarre and the beautiful. “Carpe Diem, Moonman is an entanglement of chaos, the bi-product of excessive touring, an explosion of doubt, wonder, excitement, dog bites, Greek philosophy, death, weekend benders and a partridge in a pear tree”, he says. “There’s so many genres, flavours, cream crackers and fairground amusements packed into CDM … I want people to come back and find something new with each listen.”

Naturally, an album this presumably unhinged demands an equally massive tour. PPC are setting off on a whirlwind 45-show run through Australia, the US, the UK, and Europe, with another 80 dates still to be revealed. Australian fans can catch them in March and April, with Eora/Sydney already sold out. From there, they’ll take their signature brand of chaos overseas, playing everything from Wide Awake Festival in London to Northside Festival in Denmark.
