The legendary Australian band GANGgajang have lent their esteemed support to the current push for a First Nations Voice to Parliament, subject to a national referendum later this year in Australia. The band has released an anthemic single ‘Speak To Me’ resulting from their journey and conversations with First Nations and non-Indigenous friends and colleagues. The song has a heartfelt message that the time has come to listen to the indigenous people of Australia and enshrine this in the Australian Constitution and they are assisted by the equally legendary actor Jack Thompson’s spoken word contribution and didgeridoo player William Barton.

As can be expected from a band as passionate as GANGgajang, ‘Speak to Me’ is a heart warming and eloquent expression that canters along with a rapid pace, the didgeridoo forming an ominous undercurrent and crystalline guitars that dapple across the surface. GANGgajang have always combined passionate, literate lyricism with deft pop sensibilities and ‘Speak To Me’ is true to form:

‘Speak To Me’ is out today and available to stream through the link below:

The Voice To Parliament arose out of the the Uluru Statement from First Nations people of Australia, seeking a way to reconcile the the horrors of the colonial past with a legitimate contribution to the future governance of Australia by First Nations people.
