Introducing the Backseat Mafia Podcast…

Welcome to our podcast series where we aim to bring you really very good DJ mixes on the third Friday of each month. Expect a range of styles and genres spanning the underground across techno, house, deep house and more. Coming up are mixes from local talents and further afield, our first is from London girl come northerner, DJ Sarita.

Bought up traditionally in East London by her Indian born parents, Sarita began a successful teaching career in 1999 in Ilford but everything began to change when she moved to Cleethorpes in 2001 where she still resides. During a night at Bar Silk (now The Scratching Post) she fell in love with house music. A few years later she purchased her first DJ set up and within three months she was asked to play local event Fuzion, it was here a local promoter spotted her and asked to get involved with his new venture Apparition, which has since evolved into one of the most well known and successful nights in the area.

Following that, Sarita got herself a residency at Matik in Birmingham and whilst living in Sheffield for a while she played at The Sheffield Techno Institute, Nocturnal, The Plug, Tramlines Festival, DeBug and Collect. Sarita has also played at events with Todd Terry, Jon Da Silva, Harvey McKay, Kate Lawler, Ian Ossia, Graeme Park, Allister Whitehead, CJ Mackintosh and Marshall Jefferson and she says that the highlight of her career so far has been playing on the same night as her idol Joseph Capriati in Glasgow, something certainly not to be sniffed at!  Sarita also runs her own night Audacious, showcasing new up and coming DJs that she coaches, giving them their first opportunity to play out to a crowd.

We’re hoping you like the mix that Sarita has put together exclusively for us at Backseat which she describes as “encapsulating the things I love most about house music, some deep vibrant tunes with soulful emotive vocals. Some funk with old school twists that take you back in time and put a smile on your face.”

Follow our page on Mixcloud and hear more exclusive mixes each month. Thanks for listening!

You can get more of Sarita on facebook, twitter and Soundcloud and find her playing next on 14th March for Better Days at Beachcomber in Cleethorpes.
