EP Review: Chloe Star – the bed i line in

Blending emotive, expressive alternative-rock with a pop sheen and electronic flair, Chloe Star captures a radiant high-octane sound which glows with commercial appeal across the new EP ‘the bed i lie in’.

Opening with the intense guitar lines, punching drums and subtle synths of ‘hollywood kills’, Chloe Star immediately showcases the Bring Me The Horison-meets-Juice WRLD and Post Malone sound, characterised by her at times half rapped, at others melodic vocal delivery. Urgent, explosive and emotionally driven, the track shines bright through the distorted tones of its verse into an anthemic chorus.

Elsewhere on the 5 track release, ‘after thought’ delivers a more straight post-punk sound as a more clean, less processed lead vocal shines bright over the driving guitar lines. ‘before i met your mother’ opens with an explosive re-enactment of an argument before progressing into a surprisingly tuneful, reflective and restrained track that plays on it’s melodic, breezy vocal tone over a stylistic punchy, Paramore-esque indie-rock backdrop.

‘said what i said on the internet’ offers Chloe’s central alt-pop-rock sound before the EP’s highlight, the bedroom-pop-come-alt-rock stunner ‘wasted youth’ ends the EP on a high with its huge, spotless production and chorus melody to die for.

Speaking about the EP, Chloe explains: “This is my most authentic piece of work that I have ever written. Being able to put my heart and soul into this project has been so healing for me on so many levels. I am officially walking in my truth and can now shut the door on the bed i lie in.”
