It was around sunset time. Sitting in my studio apartment overlooking the lush green rice paddies under Mt Agung in my bali home I found inspiration for this mix. Opening with a poetic spoken word number and rolling into one of my good mates original deep house tracks, its “hypnotising” groove will get you feeling euphoric and pumped at the same time. I’ve included my two new tracks coming out on Independent German record label MYR this coming September, Hypnotise and Words. Hypnotise EP
Scotty Cal arrives on MYR Records with two tidy tracks that showcase his broad take on house music.
A mainstay on the Australian scene who has established himself with residencies at Sydney’s most coverted parties such as Label Warehouse, Manly Wharf Bar and Blueprint entertainment. He now lives in Bali where he co-runs the Escape to Bali concept, a sought-after monthly house and techno event at various locations from Uluwatu to Seminyak and Canggu. He is a fast emerging producer whose solo debut ‘Mothership’ reached #17 on the Australian ARIA club charts and most recent EP “Futurism” gained attention from the likes of Jamie Jones, Paco Osuna & Audiojack. His sound goes from deep to tech and covers plenty in between.
First up here is ‘Hypnotise’, an organic and warm house cut with a fat bottom end and infectious claps. Twinkling melodies get you gazing skyward while well-placed vocal samples and silky pads bring a humid and atmospheric vibe. It’s a characterful cut that pairs depth with groove dynamics. ‘Words’ is a totally different proposition with old-school breaks powering it along. The mood is dark, with edgy percussion and snapping hits making for a prickly groove as a plunging bassline drills down under the mysterious cosmic chords.
These are two very different but equally stylish tracks from this fast-rising star.
