Dark Mofo 2022 headliner, Kim Gordon and her band performed songs from her latest (and surprisingly, debut) solo release, 2019’s ‘No Home Record’.

The sold-out crowd had come from all across Australia to see this one-off appearance with her band at The Odeon Theatre, and they would not have been disappointed, as she had assembled a fine group of musicians to accompany her on this journey.

The album was played in its’ entirety, and the art/noise-rock queen had the crowd eating out of her hand, with the incendiary, and at times jolting sonic attack of the songs and her instinctive ownership of the stage throughout her performance spellbinding the audience.

The dissonant and jarring beats of Sketch Artist opened proceedings before consecutively moving through the opening 6 tracks of the album, after which time the order was slightly changed. Two non-album songs, Blonde Redhead and Grass Jeans followed on from the fury of Hungry Baby as a 3 song encore gave the enthralled and adoring audience more of what it craved.

Dark Mofo continues to bring the left-field artists to this state of Tasmania, providing a glimpse into the world of art and music which is often hidden from the masses due to its’ confrontational, or avant-garde nature. However, this festival, and the artists it brings prove that there is room for this on a much wider scale, as the sheer size of the crowds that have been drawn to the festival attest.
