In an unforgettable night at the Hordern Pavilion, LA-based indie pop band TV Girl made their Eora/Sydney debut to a packed house. Fans of all ages sprinted to the barrier and eagerly awaited the start of a show that promised to deliver cult classics, fan favourites, their most famous TikTok sounds, and even songs that “people don’t even like that much at all.”

Opening the night was the Australian electronic duo Surfing, featuring Penny Van Hazelberg and Leroy Honeycomb. Known for their lo-fi electronic sound that blends elements of synth-wave, vapor-wave, and dance music, their sweet and funky hits were the perfect intro to the night.

TV Girl, composed of lead singer Brad Petering, Wyatt Harmon, Jason Wyman, and touring guitarist Zoe Zeeman, took the stage to the screaming audience. A giant inflatable TV Girl loomed behind them, and the vibrant rainbow lighting set the tone for the night. The atmosphere was electric as the band launched into their set with tracks like ‘Not Allowed’, ‘Birds Don’t Sing’, and ‘Blue Hair’. The audience, seemingly knowing every word of every song, sang along with adoring enthusiasm.

One of the highlights of the night was their performance of ‘The Blonde’, with fans theatrically dancing and singing along to the lyrics. Adding to the fun, Wyatt delighted the audience with a brief triangle solo, then upped the ante by bringing out a larger triangle, much to everyone’s amusement.

In a spontaneous moment, Wyatt followed up on a dare from the previous night and did a shoey, to the delight of the fans. Lead singer Brad Petering took his own moment to connect with the crowd, jumping into the audience to hand a lucky fan $50 – a humble nod to the current cost of living crisis.

The night reached its climax during the encore when the band performed their most popular hit ‘Lovers Rock’. The crowd erupted, singing along passionately to every word, making it a memorable ending to an already incredible show.

From start to finish, TV Girl’s Sydney debut was a fantastic live performance. The band’s unique blend of indie rock, the playful stage antics, and the enthusiastic crowd made it a night to truly remember.
