Saturday night at The Lansdowne Hotel in Gadigal/Sydney saw baroque glam-pop artist Cowboy Malfoy take the stage for a stunningly sweet spotlit performance. The intimate setting of the venue created an atmosphere warm with a shared closeness and camaraderie.

The night began with the soulful tunes of Sage Dwyer, whose solo performance showcased her beautiful voice and undeniable talent. Nervous at first, Dwyer quickly found her rhythm, captivating the audience with a performance that felt like second nature and a heartfelt return to home.

As Cowboy Malfoy graced the stage, a sense of spirit filled the air. Expressing warmth reminiscent of a close-knit community, they immediately engaged in playful moments with fans in the crowd setting the tone for a night full of connection. Throughout the performance, the audience was invited to participate in harmony, creating special moments of interaction between Cowboy Malfoy and the crowd. A “rapid-fire round” featuring a multitude of their released singles, each under one minute, added an extra layer of spontaneity to the night.

An undeniable highlight of experiencing Cowboy Malfoy’s live performance is their remarkable skill in transforming minimal ingredients—a microphone, guitar, and occasionally keys—into captivating pop melodies. Cowboy Malfoy’s vocal range, characterized by a distinctive falsetto, is nothing short of a stunning display, akin to a shooting star for the ears.

The term “magical” aptly describes the experience as Cowboy Malfoy skillfully transported the audience through a journey of their travels, living in New York and returning to Australia. The artist also shared personal stories, from first relationships to breakups, shaping a wild 2023. Last year also marked the release of the hit single ‘How I’d Kill‘ and their latest release, ‘Head Start‘.

Extending beyond enchantment, Cowboy Malfoy’s music is, in their own words, ‘about love’. In a seemingly unconscious yet poetic manner, they expressed how the universal theme resonates in most music— whether it be about its presence or absence. Cowboy Malfoy was a shining example of a relatable, joyous and talented indie-pop artist who will undoubtedly take the world by storm.
