Peaks! are an Alt Rock duo from Italy who started creating music back in 2020 releasing their jaw-dropping debut track ‚’Blackout‘. Backseat Mafia managed to put some questions to the duo to find out about them and what the future holds.

Give us a potted history of the band

We (Lorenzo and Luca) started playing in 2019. We’ve been friends for a very long time but we played in different projects previously.
One day, in the summer of 2019, we met and we decided it was the right time to make some music together, and that’s it, now we’re here after 2 years (and a Pandemic in between), we released our first single Blackout during the first Covid wave. We didn’t expect that it would be pivotal for our career. Now we’re releasing our first EP Futurphobia, we’re about to open for Placebo in Mantova and play the 2000 Trees and BST in the UK. We’re stoked!
We feel so blessed for having the chance to experience this. This 2022 has kicked out all the sadness from the past 2 years!

Who inspired you to start making music

Luca: I guess my father and my sister. My father was a bass player and a singer and he used to listen to the classics like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and so on. Then my sister introduced me to the 90s grunge wave and I completely fell in love with it.
Lorenzo: Long story short: a piano that my grandmother used to own. I clearly remember me staring at it for hours and then, one of a sudden, I decided to press a key. It was love at first sight and I never stopped playing it.

And the one or maybe two records that inspired you artistically

Luca: I guess The Black Album by Metallica. It was pure power and anger blended with something I never heard before.

Lorenzo: Dookie. I fell in love with it because it was straight to your face, pop and punk at the same time.

If you’re trying to explain whom you sound like to someone that’s never heard you, what do you say

Take the last 20 years of rock music, add an ounce of electronic, garnish it with catchy melodies. Here’s the PEAKS! secret recipe.

Tell us about your new EP

The concept behind Futurephobia is the realization of how a certain moment can influence life and determine future. Highs and lows can be pivotal, time is relative, would you bite or be eaten? Do you wanna play dead or live? Do you wanna stand up for your rights? Do you wanna change or live with regrets? Would your past become a future phobia?

We wrote and produced this EP in our home studios. Most of the track were written during the pandemic, so they’re a result of endless Zoom call where we used to share our screen and DAW, pretending to be in the same room. We have mixed feelings about those days. We lived that period of time in a sort of a creative bubble that we decided to create while we were dealing with what was happening then.

Where can we get hold of it

We decided to put it our digitally only. So you can find it on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and all the major DSPs.

Tell us how you write

We’re pretty independent when it comes to writing new material, so both of us sometimes write in his own studio, then we meet up to finalize the work together and add some magic touch to the songs. 😉

We started pretty much the same way cause we felt more productive. We’re not always together so we decided to write songs when we feel inspired in order to not lose some great material in the waiting of being together in the same studio.

Tell us about your live show and how much have you been missing it recently

We had the chance to play our first show in May at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton and OMG, we missed playing live so bad. It was like breathing again.
The 2 venues were full of people jumping and dancing, it was magical and unexpected at the same time. We felt that energy once again and we realized why we couldn’t live without it.

What can we expect from you in the near future

After the release of our EP we’re going to focus as much as we can on touring and writing new material. We already have some new songs, but we want to experiment some more with genres/sounds before we release a new one. We’d love to make an album, but let’s see what happens in the near future: one step at a time, we’re trying to live the moment as much as we can.

Tell us your favourite records that’s rocking your headphones/tour bus/stereo

We currently have a playlist on our Spotify with all the songs that we’re currently listen to, so here it is: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/51uTo3B7jNQjKaQm93DQ0f?si=1460ffebb1ac4efc
