Meet: Tellers Scribe – UK’s Story Telling Riff Masters

Their debut album, excitingly titled ‘Volume 1’, was released back in March. These riff metallers have an impressive array of influences that recall everyone from Korn and Metallica to Meat Loaf, Queen, and Children of Bodom. Backseat Mafia spoke with the band to find out a little bit more about this exciting outfit.

Give us a potted history of the band

The Tellers Scribe Society came together in late 2022 when 4 like minded scholars sought each other out to create and tell tales from History, Mythology and lore. Following six months of writing our tales, we were joined by our 5th and final member, at which point we continued the writing for our first opus titled ‘Volume 1’. Following a few fleeting performances, the society is back at work writing “Volume 2” and planning some special performances for 2025.

Who inspired you to start making music

Music is in our blood. Each member of the society has spent every moment of their adult life within the realms of music.

And the one or maybe two records that inspired you artistically

David, The Master Of Time here, Corrosion Of Conformity ‘Deliverance’, this is one of the finest albums created, the mixture of styles and how each track moves along is a joy to my ears. 

If you’re trying to explain who you sound like to someone who’s never heard you, what do you say

Like many groups, we would love to say we are unique or breaking down barriers, but plain and simple; we mesh our own styles, which results in what we call Dickensian Metal. It has elements of classic metal, groove metal, stoner rock, grunge, and gothic, all with a narrative working throughout. 

Tell us about your new track

‘Bella’ is our sixth Single off of our Debut album. It tells the tale of Bella, the lady found in the Wych Elm, and the mystery around her. The video strikes to encapsulate the idea of society being within the tree and feeling what Bella felt.

Like many artists, we are using streaming platforms like Spotify but we also have our full album available for digital download or physical collector’s edition wooden CD box set version on Bandcamp – https://tellersscribe1.bandcamp.com/album/volume-1

Tell us how you write

The concept for each tale and album is discussed in advance so we know a general direction. Then, each member throws their riff or full song ideas into the pot, and we all listen to them. We then select the ones we all instantly connect with and build the tales from those initial ideas. Our Mistress of Lore then puts together the lyrical tale, and we work on making the flow make sense to the listener. 

Tell us about your live show What would be your dream gig

Our live show is exactly that, a show, where we have the option of a video backdrop. We utilise it to tell the background of each song in a video intro; we have video images during the songs and stage costumes to match the tales. Going forward, we have larger plans, but they will be for when Volume 2 is complete. It is hard to say the dream gig as each member is different, but to play with bands such as Black Briar or Ward XVI, who tell tales through their music, would be amazing. 

What can we expect from you in the near future

We have another single coming out on Friday 4th October called ‘Hallowed’ which has another great video and is our tale of All Hallows Eve. Then we have the final single from the album ‘Jack’ coming out in November. 2025 will see us focusing on writing the new album and some special live shows.

Tell us your favourite records that are rocking your headphones/tour bus/stereo

David Master Of Time here again to answer this one. I like to listen to a lot of new releases for grassroots bands.
