Ahead of his album Haunted Paradise which drops this summer via Fool’s Gold, Canadian electronic soul/R&B singer songwriter Alex Fleming, who records under the moniker of Black Atlass has released the latest insight into his new record with a single, Island Love. As with the previous tracks he/’s recently released – Haunted Paradise and Tonight, Island Love is full of atmosphere and a soulfulness that’s suprising for someone of his tender 22 years.
Held back and stripped back to start, its only when Fleming reaches the chorus that these layers of bubbling synths and beats really splashes over the listener. His vocal is soaring and emotive, the falsetto he uses giving the whole thing this sense of the fragile. With shades of Drake, but also James Blake it’s at one point delicate and another filled with dancefloor ready touches.
