If it was daunting tackling a real NYC garage-house anthem like Janet Rushmore’s ‘Joy’, then it doesn’t seem to have weighed heavy on London producer and DJ Sonny Fodera’s shoulders. First out in 1994, and an immediate underground hit, it’s already been remixed by the likes of house legend Kerri Chandler.
Sonny Rushmore has produced two new edits of the track, opening with the Deep Mix, which, apart from being Deep, throws in this shuffling percussion and 808 claps, while this rising bass figure accompanies Rushmore’s soul drenched vocal. The Beatdown mix is rougher, heavier even, and shows that Rushmore is more than adept of crossing boundaries, as it has this drum and bass flicker about it.
It’s out, digitally, via Soul Heaven on September 28th.
