Fresh on the heels of her first triumphant album for Ninja Tune, Kelis has had one of the tracks remixed by labelmate Actress.
It’s a real meeting of talent. On one side is New York RnB singer-songwriter and chef, approaching legendary status – Brit, Q and NME award winner and double Grammy Nominee, whilst on the other is British producer Darren Cunningham who has released music on a variety of labels, and is the founder of Werkdiscs.
There’s these swathes of slow-moving jazz chords that cloak the track, and initially lull you into a false sense of security. But soon, the glitchy, impatient electronica starts, infecting the track. Kelis’ voice is its customary soulful self, but its skewed across beats by Actress, giving the whole thing this almost playful, wonky feel.
