Dieter Moebius (1944–2015), was one half of German experimental Krautrock pioneers ‘Cluster’, along with Hans-Joachim Roedelius. The pair collaborated widely and released various other albums; the Moebius & Plank (as in Conny, legendary producer) album ‘Rastakraut Pasta’ being one of the more interesting and bizarre.
Now Hamburg indie label Bureau B will release in October, recording sessions of Moebius collaborating with American electronic musicians Tim Story and Jon Leidecker. From the brief taste of promotional tracks, one can expect surreal moody soundscapes and minimal techno bleeps and squawks, but with the plaintive, nostalgic piano melodies that typified the ‘Cluster’ sound. And with track titles like ‘We Need You In Our Soups’, the German humour won’t be far from the surface either.
