Dream-pop duo EGOISM are supporting Odette on their East Coast tour this month, following the release of new single Lonely But Not Alone. The tour re-commenced last night with a hometown show at Sydney’s The Factory Theatre, before moving on to Newcastle and Canberra. This follows already successful shows in Queensland and Byron Bay. EGOISM is comprised of duo Scout Eastment and Olive Rush, both from Sydney’s inner west and creators of blissfully lo-fi indie sounds.

The companion video for the new single was directed by Nick Mckk (Stella Donnelly, Julia Jacklin, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever) and filmed in rural Victoria. According to Director, Mckk, “the idea of having a bit of fever dream was a great fit, out in the Melbourne sticks, in a Saab convertible. Scout and Olive had an idea to try a dolly zoom, something I’d never really done. I felt like it really added to the feeling of disconnect and unease that the clip was going for.”

“This song is us trying to put to music the feeling of lying next to someone and feeling unbearably separate to them, like it’s a futile cause to try and be understood” -EGOISM

This is the first single from the band this year after their 2020 EP On Our Minds. EGOISM are definitely on the rise, having won acclaim from many industry tastemakers. In 2019 they toured with Pinkish Blu, played leading Australian new music festival Bigsound and were nominated for both Song of the Year and Next Big Thing in the fbi SMAC awards. To top things off they became triple j Unearthed’s 11th most played artist of the year as well as being one of 16 recipients of Unearthed’s Level Up COVID Grants.
