Dublin rock newcomers Empathy share their explosive, moody and dark debut single ‘Jeffrey’. Delivering a high-octane, intense walk through distorted tones and expressive delivery, the track thematically taps into the twisted psyche of one of the most notorious serial killers of the 20th century, Jeffrey Dahmer.
A heavy, brutal exploration of moral corruption, with a sound that mirrors the dark and disturbing subject matter it tackles, the track mirrors the tracks lyricism through its dark a foreboding tone. Dystopian guitar riffs that morph from deep, rhythmic distortions into screaming lead lines, the track is driven forward with a sense of purpose through it’s punching drums and grounding bass. Led by the growling yet melodic lead vocals, the track captures a mixture of grunge and heavy rock with some unexpectedly catchy melodies.
Talking about the single, the band explain: “Jeffrey is an interpretation of the internal struggles and moral wranglings of one of the most well-known serial killers of the 20th century. We wrote the song to investigate Dahmer’s descent from ideation to reasoning; and eventually to his indulgent actions, and relishing in his vile nature.”
