Singer-songwriter Fred Brown announces the debut EP Distraction and the releases the first single, ‘Marks Will Match’.

Having previously made waves as part of the band automan, Brown now embarks on a deeply personal and sonically rich solo journey. Blending evocative lyricism with fervent guitar work and stretched, introspective vocals, Brown introduces a sound that is both intimate and expansive.

The first single, Marks Will Match, sets the tone for the EP. Opening with an understated, heartfelt delivery, the track gradually builds into a powerful crescendo, layering warm bass lines, resonant guitar tones, and a driving drum section that packs an emotional punch. It is a striking display of Brown’s ability to craft songs that feel both raw and meticulously arranged.

Speaking on the track’s themes, Brown reflects: “These singles, and the EP as a whole, signify a transition in my life. It’s a time where uncertainty looms, but it hasn’t quite realized itself yet. It’s standing in the distance, with a pistol on its hip. But until you reach that point, you sweep things under the rug and try your best to have fun. Everything becomes a distraction.”

Recorded between Goldsmith Studios and Brown’s own creative space, the single features an impressive lineup of collaborators: Ben Leftley on drums, Joey Crouch on bass and engineering duties, and Henry Arrowsmith on piano. Despite being Brown’s debut under his own name, his past work has already garnered widespread press and radio support, showcasing that Brown is more than ready to take his music to another level.
