Sri Lankan-British singer, songwriter, and vocalist GILSKA launches into 2025 with a striking new single, ‘Bad Way’, marking a bold sonic evolution from EDM-Pop to a darker, moodier and more atmospheric pop sound.
‘Bad Way’ finds GILSKA layering pulsing basslines, crunchy beats, and sampled strings with elegant vocal lines and brooding lyricism that captures an approach akin to the likes of BANKS and Lana Del Rey. Described by the artist as “a warning, not an apology,” the track reframes the narrative around emotional trauma and its aftermath. “It’s about a toxic relationship gone too far,” GILSKA explains. “It explores the aftermath of emotional abuse, flipping the narrative on the ‘psycho ex’ trope and revealing the pain that created her.”
The track’s theatricality is matched by a cinematic depth that mirrors GILSKA’s evolving artistry. The single’s production is rich in texture, layered keys, subtle guitar riffs, and swelling yet controlled electronics combine to create a soundscape that feels both intimate and epic.
GILSKA’s journey to this moment has been one of continual reinvention. With roots in classical music and a catalogue of club anthems that nod to her Sri Lankan heritage, she has never stayed in one lane for long. Her genre-fluid approach echoes the legacy of her grandfather, a prominent Sri Lankan pop singer, whose influence continues to shape her sound and identity.
Her ability to build vivid, emotionally-charged sonic worlds has not gone unnoticed. GILSKA has earned critical acclaim and consistent national airplay, including repeated support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC Asian Network.
