Following an impressive run of live dates, opening for the likes of Wunderhorse, Been Stellar, and bdrmm, rising Irish post-punk rock outfit Basht. return with their commanding new single, ‘Vain,’ set for release on March 19th. This track marks the first glimpse of their highly anticipated EP, ‘Bitter & Twisted,’ produced by Richard McNamara (Embrace).

Though a studio duo, Basht. come alive as a four-piece on stage, cultivating a dedicated following across Ireland and the UK. Their reputation for intense, emotionally charged live performances continues to grow, and ‘Vain’ exemplifies the post-punk-infused alt-rock sound that has earned them critical acclaim.

Built on layers of sprawling distorted guitars, pounding drums, and a grounding bassline, ‘Vain’ is propelled by a raw, spoken-word vocal delivery that is both urgent and gripping. The track surges forward with a determined energy, its lo-fi, distorted production amplifying its pointed lyricism. As the song reaches its anthemic chorus, the intensity escalates, with reverberating guitar lines and swelling sonic textures adding to its electrifying momentum.

Speaking about the track, the band explains: “‘Vain’ is a character study of a charismatic yet sinister figure—someone who conceals their true nature behind a charming facade. It delves into the dangers of charisma and the ease with which people can be manipulated when they let their guard down. The lyric, ‘He’d cut out her heart, to tattoo his name,’ is a twisted take on devotion—an unsettling satire on obsession and control masquerading as romance.

At its heart, the song is also introspective. It’s not just about an external figure; it’s about personal struggles with morality, self-perception, and jealousy. The most dangerous people aren’t always the obvious villains; sometimes, they’re the ones who make us feel special, the ones we admire. ‘Vain’ serves as both a warning and a confession, exploring how easily we can fall under someone’s spell—or become that person ourselves.”

With their reputation growing and their new EP on the horizon, Basht. are poised to elevate their presence even further. As they gear up for an extensive tour across the UK and Europe, their momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
