Twenty-five years since its release, Nine Days’ breakout single ‘Absolutely (Story of a Girl)’ continues to resonate as a defining moment in early-2000s pop-rock. Now, for the first time, the Long Island band will bring their catalogue to Australian stages this November.
Best known for their 2000 hit – which reached #31 on the ARIA Singles Chart and earned double-Platinum certification in the US – Nine Days will tour the east coast in celebration of the 25th anniversary of The Madding Crowd, the album that launched them into the global spotlight.
Presented by MRG Live, the tour will see Nine Days perform songs that have remained fixtures on commercial radio, while introducing a new generation to the buoyant hooks and candid lyricism that marked their debut. Lead singer John Hampson’s songwriting – known for its balance of intimacy and melody – found renewed relevance in recent years after the track was reimagined for the Oscar-winning film Everything Everywhere All At Once.
With over 175 million streams on Spotify and a steady presence in the pop culture ether, ‘Absolutely (Story of a Girl)’ has become more than just a one-off hit – it’s a track that’s aged into a genre touchstone. Now, as the band prepares to perform in Australia for the first time, they’re also embracing a new phase: reconnecting with long-time fans and building on a revived sense of momentum.
