News: Olivia Dean To Play One-Off Sydney Show This November

British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean will return to Australia this spring for a one-off headline show in Sydney. An Evening at the Fleet Steps will take place on Wednesday, November 20, with a special outdoor performance set against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour at Mrs Macquaries Point.

Presented by Handsome Tours, Laneway Presents, Fuzzy, and the Botanic Gardens of Sydney, the event coincides with a pivotal moment in Dean’s career. Following the release of her Mercury Prize-shortlisted debut Messy in 2023, Dean has continued to build a reputation for both critical and commercial success, earning three BRIT nominations and being selected to contribute music to the upcoming Bridget Jones film Mad About the Boy.

Dean’s work is defined by its blend of soul, pop, and classic singer-songwriter stylings, layered with intimate, observational lyrics. Songs such as The Hardest Part and Dive introduced listeners to her thoughtful narrative voice, while recent single Nice To Each Other extends that clarity into themes of vulnerability and early connection.

Live, Dean has steadily grown her audience with appearances on Later… with Jools Holland, NPR’s Tiny Desk, and the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. Her Sydney performance will mark her most intimate Australian headline appearance to date.

Arriving just two months after the release of her upcoming second album The Art of Loving, due out in September, the Sydney show will offer fans a closer look at Dean’s evolving perspective. The new record, she explains, focuses on the quieter corners of love — its maintenance, its nuance, its everyday complexity.

With her focus on sincerity and detail, An Evening at the Fleet Steps looks set to be a contemplative and carefully crafted live experience — a rare moment with one of Britain’s most quietly compelling new voices.
