News: The AJM Show Releases New EP ‘Matinée’

The AJM Show, the brainchild of London-based artist Alex Martin, unveils his highly anticipated debut EP, Matinée. Bringing infectious indie-pop musicality, vibrantly infectious vocal melodies and cathartic, personal lyricism, the EP offers both catchy, pop flare and a sense of true artistry.

Written during the later stages of the pandemic, Matinée explores themes of fractured relationships, yearning for lost youth, and the monotony of lockdown life. Alex Martin, who wrote, self-produced, and recorded the EP, describes it as indie-pop/rock at its core, enriched with influences from funk, R&B, and more. He worked with an array of talented musicians to bring the project to life, resulting in a soundscape that feels both deeply personal but also widely relatable and commercially minded.

The EP begins with Take A Walk, an energetic opener that marries danceable grooves with lyrical reflections born out of isolation. From there, The Answer bursts in with glittering synths, electric guitars, and a lively brass section that builds a riff-driven, anthemic energy. The mood shifts to a brighter, more whimsical tone with With You, a synth-pop track that provides a charming foundation for Martin’s soaring vocals.

Are You Looking For Me? follows as a tender and evocative centerpiece, its gentle guitar and lush string orchestration creating an atmosphere of intimacy and warmth. The tone then flips with Hard-Wired Womaniser, a cheeky, playful track full of plucky instrumentation and confident energy. The EP closes with I Wrote You A Letter, where upbeat musicality contrasts with introspective lyrics, leaving the listener with a sense of closure and the urge to revisit the project from the beginning.

Matinée is now available to stream on all major platforms with an upcoming CD release which also includes a hidden bonus track (available for preorder from The AJM Show’s Big Cartel store). With its infectious hooks, rich production, and emotional depth, the debut EP is a compelling introduction to The AJM Show.
