News: The Amity Affliction Release ‘Let The Ocean Take Me’ On Their Own Terms + New Show Added to National Tour

The Amity Affliction is taking control of their narrative with the upcoming release of ‘Let The Ocean Take Me (Redux),’ a reimagined version of their landmark 2014 album, set for release on September 27th. Accompanying the release, the band has already shared a new recording of the fan-favourite single ‘My Father’s Son,’ and announced an additional show at the Enmore Theatre to their tour.

Originally released in 2014, ‘Let The Ocean Take Me’ was a turning point for The Amity Affliction, securing their second ARIA Number 1 and expanding their fanbase with standout tracks like ‘Pittsburgh’ and ‘Don’t Lean On Me.’ Nearly a decade later, the band is revisiting the album—not just to celebrate its impact but to reclaim ownership after years of being tied to a restrictive label deal.

“We re-recorded this album for a few reasons, but it would be foolish for me not to mention the more monumental of these, that being that our deal with our previous record label had them taking the vast majority of all revenue from what has been our most successful album until recently,” says frontman Joel Birch.

Birch emphasises the importance of considering indie labels that offer fairer agreements, steering clear of the pitfalls that The Amity Affliction faced. “Let this be the canary in the coal mine for younger bands, in this day and age you can find ethical and equitable deals, you don’t need to believe the bullshit larger labels will feed you, and you can maintain control over your masters and own your own songs.”

The release of ‘Let The Ocean Take Me (Redux’) isn’t just a nod to the past but a step forward on their own terms. Australian fans can experience the Redux album live this November as The Amity Affliction embark on their national tour, stopping in Meanjin/Brisbane, Eora/Sydney, Naarm/Melbourne, Kaurna/Adelaide, and Boorloo/Perth. With demand surging, the band has added an extra show at Gadigal/Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on November 11th. They’ll be joined by Ice Nine Kills, We Came As Romans, and Heavensgate. Before that, the band is set to headline the Big Pineapple Festival in Queensland on October 19th, alongside acts like Bliss N Eso, Golden Features, and Peking Duk.
