Swedish rock outfit The Hives have announced their seventh studio album, The Hives Forever Forever The Hives, due out 29 August 2025 via Play It Again Sam. The record follows 2023’s The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons, their first in over a decade, which was met with positive reviews from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, and Stereogum.
The band have released the album’s lead single, Legalize Living, alongside a video directed by Filip Nilsson and Henry Moore Selder, who also helmed their Paint A Picture clip.
The new album was recorded in Stockholm at YEAR0001’s studio and ABBA’s Riksmixningsverket, with long-time collaborator Pelle Gunnerfeldt producing. The sessions also included input from Mike D (Beastie Boys), who hosted the band at his studio in Malibu, and Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme.
The Hives—Howlin’ Pelle, Chris Dangerous, The Johan And Only, Nicholaus Arson, and Vigilante Carlstroem—formed in the early 1990s and have since built a reputation for high-energy live shows and a catalogue of raw, guitar-driven rock. They’ve performed alongside acts including The Rolling Stones and AC/DC, and received widespread recognition for their early 2000s output, notably Veni Vidi Vicious and the breakout single Hate To Say I Told You So.
