Working on their second album as you read this, New Yorkers Damn Jackals are intent on making up for lost time. They had a big 2020 ahead of them in terms of giving their 2018 debut Crooked Castle, Volume 1 a victory lap, but the world, well, it had other plans.
So they were put on ice for about a year and a half instead – but their brief and brilliant new EP Rivals sounds like they never left. If scuzzy garage rock is your thing, you should make time for it.
You won’t need to make too much; about 10 minutes. ‘Swoon’ takes up almost 4 of them and acts as an ideal introduction to the band, replete with an absolute ripper of a guitar solo.
