Premiere: Eora/Sydney Based, Thomas James Mahony, Returns With Mesmerising New Single ‘Hearts Afire’

Backseat Mafia is thrilled to exclusively premiere the truly mesmerising new single and music video ‘Hearts Afire’ by Eora/Sydney-based artist Thomas James Mahony, releasing everywhere tomorrow.

A beautiful, starlit release, ‘Hearts Afire’ breathes life with profound intensity. It begins with an enigmatic swell of power before Thomas’ powerhouse vocals peel you away from reality with a taste of hopeful heartbreak served in an ocean swell. The track’s powerful opening grows even deeper with a little reverb and the introduction of some powerful piano — it’s simply beautiful.

“’Hearts Afire’ is a ballad that celebrates the enduring, prevailing divinity of love for one’s dearest. And proclaims its capacity to overwhelm despair and ostracisation in spite of rifts wrought by time and uncertainty”, says Mahony.

“This is a real meaningful and confessional tune for me. It speaks to my memory of one of my closest friends and solicits from it a truth about the state of my heart and soul, and therefore, naturally it’s difficult to speak about, beyond what’s written in the lyrics already. But ultimately, it’s a song about overcoming the darkness with the light, somebody who has always given me light in the darkness, and about our demons dying in the rear-view mirror. It’s a love letter for a guardian angel and a good omen. A reminder that your courage is enough. “Let it blaze…Burn the world right off your shoulders again“”.

Debuting in 2023 with the single ‘Rough’, a captivating jazzy art-pop piece, Mahony has since captured hearts and minds through multiple releases. His unique delivery has caught the attention of ARIA chart-topping rapper and musician Huskii, who will feature Mahony on his upcoming album.

Luckily for us, Thomas recently returned to the studio to record a plethora of new music, which he is now ready to unveil. We can safely say we’re on the edge of our seats to hear more.
