Is this song about me? We are inordinately proud to premiere the new single ‘Hey, Hey Narcissus’ from the living legend Kim Salmon‘s new project, Smoked Salmon, and it’s a blast of fresh air as vocal duties are wrested from Salmon by Claire Birchall.

It’s a sinuous, slinky smooth track that’s as enchanting as the call of the sirens to a mast-strapped Odysseus. There is a sort of sixties backbeat blush to the track that’s all miniskirt, eyeliner and beehives and it weaves in and out of the ears and mesmerises like a snake charmer’s pet.

The track comes complete with a video that is just as transfixing with its close-up of Birchall singing interspersed with Dali-esque shots of salmon-headed performers in a surreal montage. Someone is on something chemical and unnatural and it’s a positive delight:

‘Hey, Hey Narcissus’ is out tomorrow and available through all the usual download and streaming sites.

Kim Salmon is of course leader of the legendary swamp pioneers The Scientists (who reformed last year for a series of gigs) and The Beasts of Bourbon. He has been at the very beating heart of indie music in Australia and leading the world with the paisley-tinged grunge that emanated from Western Australia in the eighties: a true pioneer and often labelled as the ‘Godfather of Grunge’.

Smoked Salmon is an international collective of musicians serving the great genius.

Smoked Salmon consists at various times of:

Delphine Ciampi
Dimi Dero
Claire Birchall
Doug Galbraith
Jeff Hooker
Sam Worrad
Todd Pickett
Jozeph Grech
Sabrina Lawrie
Phil Usher

A self-titled debut album for this project is out next month on 28 February out through the legendary Cheersquad Records & Tapes.
