The band formerly known as Syrup Go On!, SGO, return more sparkling evidence of their musical prowess with their new single ‘Glimmer’, which we are very proud to premiere here today. Of course its release through the extraordinary 4000 Records is proof enough of quality, but SGO continue to shine with their brilliant shimmering wall of sound attack.

‘Glimmer’ does what it says on the label – a shimmering onslaught of guitars with yearning, layered vocals seething through the musical undergrowth – chanting, euphoric and loud. The wonky open guitar tuning attack is snaky and twisting, creating a powerful sonic undercurrent. This is heady, exciting stuff that would comfortably sit next to MBV or Slowdive on any collection sorted by genre. As ever, the band delivers a potently evocative lyricism:

Dawn of the new day
It’s brighter than heaven
Birds flying over
I’m happy to see them
Sand under my feet
It feels like a cold sweep
Glimmer
Glimmer
Glimmer

The track puts melody, pop sensibilities and a barbed-wire disposition in a blender and creates an immersive sonic cocktail:

‘Glimmer’ is out tomorrow (Thursday, 26 October 2023) and can be pre-saved here.
