We are very honoured to give you an exclusive look at the new video from Melbourne instrumentalists Badinage and their ethereal track ‘Dance of the Odonata’.

Coming from the band’s EP ‘Meander’ released earlier this year (and reviewed by me here), ‘Dance of the Odonata’ is a stately graceful track, elegiac and restrained with a weeping cello that evokes a sense of deep mourning.

The video, shot and produced by Ben Lane Media Solutions, consists of enigmatic up close and intimate live performances from the band, interspersed with scenes of majestic natural beauty crowned by the flitting dragonfly, all in constant motion. The track is a fitting soundtrack for the indelible images floating across the screen:

Badinage has an impressive heritage with cellist/bassist Simon Capp (Rhythm Pigs, Blue Ruin), guitarist Dave Reid (Speedway, The Likely Lads, Yard Dogs) and drummer Matt Omond (Cactus, Still Life Clowns, The Ayatollahs) on board. The EP was recorded and engineered by the legendary Phill Calvert, Capp’s one-time rhythm partner in local 80s legends Blue Ruin and drummer for iconic bands such as The Boys Next Door/The Birthday Party and The Psychedelic Furs.

A new album, again produced by Phill Calvert, is on the way and you can catch Badinage live on the following dates:

22 July 22nd 2023 at the Tramway Hotel in Fitzroy with with David Craven and Jon S Williams – details and tickets here;

12 August 2023 at Voodoo Love Child in St Kilda – details and tickets here; and

27 August 2023 at the Wesley Anne in Northcote, Melbourne/Naarm  3pm, with special guest Tara Dowler – details and tickets here.

In the meantime, ‘Meander’ is out through Behind the Beat Records and MGM and is available to download and stream here and through the link below.
