Los-Angeles based singer songwriter Sky Keller is today releasing her latest single ‘High & Hurt’, and we’re delighted to be premiering it here on Backseat Mafia.
Of the track Sky exclusively told us “I thought I’d never get out of that depressive funk, but writing the song gave me the kind of head change i needed to move on”. It’s smart, classic pop songwriting, with bounce and flow but at the same time full of melancholy, not least in the lyrics, which smack of disappointment and heartbreak. Underneath there’s drips and shards of synths and this spattering of percussion, while the tune as a whole sits somewhere between dancing in the dark or a club and crying in the rain.
