From the moment the opening track of Downgirl’s new EP explodes out of your speakers, you are thrust into a whirlwind of raw energy, fierce femininity, and sonic anarchy reminiscent of the legendary femme punk outfit, L7. ‘Fiend’ combines rhythmic drumming gymnastics provided by Skarlett Saramore with crunchy guitar riffs, it’s powerful, it’s in your face, it’s impossible to resist.

On ‘Beauty Queen’ Alexandra Neville’s vocal delivery intertwines the gritty edge and sheer power that Donita Sparks is renowned for. It’s not just about the tone; it’s about the attitude, the raspy vocal dives, and the unapologetic rawness. On the instrumental track ‘Democracy Manifest’ Kristen Adams’ guitar riffs hit you in the solar plexus—strong, frenzied, unyielding, and saturated with a gritty distortion that transports you all the way back to Seattle circa the 90s. At the heart of this EP is bassist, Lou Harbidge, providing the foundational groove and depth that keeps the band’s sound cohesive and resonant.

On ‘Manic’, Downgirl combine the gritty passion of grunge with the explosive energy of punk. They wear their influences on their sleeves, but their unique voice and narratives make this EP an exhilarating listen for both old-school punk and grunge aficionados as well as new converts.

The band deliver electrifying live performances, don’t miss them on their upcoming tour.
