A Place to Bury Strangers are infamous for the furosity of their live shows. To celebrate the forthcoming release of Synthesizer, the band are on back on the road.

Formed in 2002, in New York City, they specialise in a wall of pulsating sound which uniquely blends noise rock, shoegaze and space rock, with just a hint of psychedelia every now and then.

With a new lineup for this release, with Ackermann still at the helm. Tonight at Manchester’s Deaf Institute, they once again captivate and show exactly why they are top of their game.

Opening with ‘You are the One’ from 2015’s Transfixition LP, they ease into their surroundings and the crowd response is palpable, you can feel them seizing every note. New single ‘Disgust’ is blistering from the first note to the last, and for good reason. Its also one of the few of theirs where you can sing a long to the chant style vocals. This is closely followed by ‘Bad Idea’ from the EP of the same name. The combination of these two tracks really showcases where the band are at in this moment and brings anyone sleeping right up to date. ‘Hold In Tight’ comes from 2022’s See Through You EP and is always a thrill live, with its soaring pace and frontal assault of fuzzed up noise.

As is their want, they head into the crowd and get up close and personal for a few tracks including the epic ‘Ego Death’ from 2009’s Exploding Head LP. They are back on stage for a new track from the upcoming EP which teases the crowd ahead of the release, and then blast back with stunning ‘Keep Slipping Away’ which always has fans bouncing and singing, tonight being no exception. They conclude things, all too soon for most people’s likings it should be added, with ‘I Lived My Life to Stand in the Shadow of Your Heart’, a raucous number to add a full octane set.

They have never disappointed to date, and I can’t see them ever doing so. The loudest live band there is.
