Say Psych: Track Review: The Third Sound – Your Love is Evol

The Third Sound have recently released their new single ‘Your Love Is Evol’ and announced their fifth album, First Light, set for release 27 August via Fuzz Club Records. Led by The Brian Jonestown Massacre guitarist, the Icelandic musician Hákon Aðalsteinsson, The Third Sound are a Berlin-based band that deal in a hypnotic blend of neo-psychedelia, post-punk and new wave.

Appearing as if set in the Twin Peaks ‘Red Room’, Hákon describes the song’s accompanying video as “a simple portrayal of an after-hours gathering that escalates into beautiful madness, as commonly seen here in Berlin.”

It starts gently, with shimmering shoegaze-inflected psychedelia but soon breaks lose and shows itself to be something much darker. Perhaps a potent message for current times, where nothing is as it seems. The infectious bassline lurks menacingly below complex organ riffs before things dissolve into distorted wall-of-noise guitars.
