‘The new face of punk’ fronted by ‘the queen of punk today’ is how Barb Wire Dolls are been seen by many. With many, been the right word. They’ve played over 600 gigs in 18 different countries leaving a trail of chaos and lasting impressions where ever they go.

Barb Wire Dolls formed in Greece at the Ikarus Artist Commune on the isle of Crete, just under 4 years ago. They soon attracted the attention of Rodney Bingenheimer, DJ for influential LA radio station, KROQ (the first station to play Ramones, Blondie, Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana etc.). He couldn’t get enough of them, and invited them to play over in the US. Not much was happening in Greece, collapsed economy, political turmoil etc. so The Dolls sold everything and moved to Venice Beach. Since then they have been blowing the scene apart. Debut gig at The Roxy theatre sold out, people left saying they were the most important punk band to visit the States since The Sex Pistols!

They’ve not let it all go to their heads though; sticking with the punk/DIY ethos, they’ve spurned numerous record deals and advances from some of the biggest A&R companies and chose to manage themselves, release their music their way and hit the road, hard. Touring extensively they’ve earned support slots with the likes of Jello Biafra, Descendents, NOFX, Bouncing Souls and co-headlined dates with GBH, Sham 69, Discharge, Cockney Rejects, and 999, as well as their own headline shows.

The Barb Wire Dolls are at the forefront of the latest crop of street punk bands. They have reignited this element of the punk scene and I can assure you their live show is an experience not to be missed. It’s loud, chaotic it’s exactly what punk should be!

Don’t take my word for it though. The band has just set off on a Europe/UK/USA tour and will be hitting our (UK) shores next week. Make sure you’re in the pit for this one…
