Mrs Jones is the new single from Hertfordshire based multi-instrumentalist Fictionian, aka Glen Roberts. This faux-fanfare like opening makes way for this lovely tumbling synths and high, melodic bassline. Over the top Roberts delivers a soaring melody that glues itself firmly to your consciousness as it plays out its boroque-pop way full of the spirit of Beatles and Beach Boys in almost equal measure, with its hazy, stately majesty and all sugared with sweet harmonies. Expressing his thoughts on Mrs Jones, the love of his life that’s just a little bit out of reach “you seem to know it all,” he confesses at one point, its slightly addictive on the repeated listens front. Move over Ben Folds et al, there’s a new(ish) kid in town.
Fictionian has just released the visuals for the single, filmed in a hedge maze and full of psychedelic, trippy camerawork which plays on this idea of a labyrinth. Check it out, here
