Ahead of the release of his new album, Gamble for a Rose, which drops on 22nd January through Buffalo Gang, via Kobalt Label Services – King Charles, aka West London singer-songwriter Charles Costa, has announced a bunch of UK tour dates for next February, and releases a new video for the title track.
Talking about the track, Charles commented “I wrote this one at uni about a girl called Rose. I wrote it on beer coasters in a bar, it just came out. I cherish these songs because there’s nothing to pollute the process. It was the only song i wrote in the whole year I was at that college.” It’s a plaintive but beautiful track, sprinkled with these glittering piano chords and soft arpeggios on the guitar. It’s his vocal though that draws you in, as he lays down this gently lilting melody, as underneath the accompaniment unfurls with layers added, bass abd then strings, before this wiry guitar solo trips over everything. It’s quite something.
