Brooklyn based VOWWS recently released their latest album The Great Sun. Filled as it is by industrial strength synths and dark pop tendancies, it also featured guest appearances from Gary Numan and Thor Harris of Swans. From it the band has made a video (well, they self-directed, filmed and edited it) for the track Councillor.
It’s dark, taking from the very darkest of the likes of Depeche Mode, and mixing it with elements of industrial. At its core though, despite the constant turns towards the minor chords, as layers of these dense and often melancholy synths overlap, is a glittering pop song. Its low-fi and almost purposely amateurish, reminiscent of 80s cable TV.
